Roger C. Young, aged 73, passed away on July 5, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Centerville, Ohio.
Roger was born to Constance and Roger W. Young in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, on March 11th 1952. He later attended the University of Dayton, where he met the love of his life, Jane Cordier. Roger and Jane were married for over 45 years, and they had two children, Chris and Jason. Above all else, Roger was an incredible husband and father who worked hard to inspire and care for his family. While cooking was never his strength - he once burned through an entire loaf of bread trying to make grilled cheese for his sons - Roger excelled at all other aspects of family life.
Roger had a long and productive career in the field of information technology, and he spent the last 20 years as a contractor with the City of Dayton. His career was marked by hard work, but also a deep sense of camaraderie with his co-workers. He would continue to find great joy in lunches with former colleagues well beyond his retirement in 2022. While Roger preferred to avoid the spotlight throughout his career, there is no doubt that he was well respected and loved by those with whom he worked.
Outside of work, Roger was known to throw himself into diverse and creative pastimes. Despite never having received formal training he was an avid pianist, and he could often be found in the basement playing and recording his music. He enjoyed a range of hobbies, including painting, calligraphy, leatherworking, and candle making. He was also an avid consumer of news, a patriotic American, and a big Wheel of Fortune fan. Perhaps nothing, though, gave him more joy in retirement than becoming a grandfather - affectionately known as Poppie - to Jasper, Dakota, Wilder, and Rowan.
Roger is survived by his mother Constance; wife Jane; children Chris (and Katrina) and Jason (and Bethie); grandchildren Jasper, Dakota, Wilder, and Rowan; sister-in-law Joyce, with whom he and Jane spent many great weekends; siblings Catherine (and Lynn), Peter (and Robin), and Bill (and Debi); and countless others whose lives he touched. He will be remembered forever for his creativity and deep passion for life, his playful intelligence and humor, and his loving commitment to his family.
Special thanks to every staff member at DayCity Hospice for helping Roger get home so that he could be with family and in a familiar setting in his last days.
Please join the family for a celebration of life from 3 - 5 PM on Friday, August 15th at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd. Kettering.
