PHILLIP C. “PHIL” BRITTAIN, age 83, of Centerville, passed away peacefully on Thursday Evening, February 19, 2026, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in New London, Ohio, on December 21, 1942, the son of Jim and Marge Brittain.
Phil proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Upon his discharge from the service, Phil began classes and trainings to become a pilot, eventually graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He spent the majority of his career flying for Standard Register, where he would later retire as Chief Pilot. In his free time, he was an avid sailor and enjoyed spending time on his sailboats at Cowan Lake, where he was a member of the Cowan Lake Sailing Association. Phil also enjoyed golfing when he was able. He was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Phil leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Carolyn (Weeks) Brittain; daughter, Debbie (Howard) Miller; grandchildren, Ian Brittain-Mynes, Hannah (Chandler) McKinney, Olivia Miller; one great-grandson, Miles McKinney, along with a sister, Patti Edwards and her family.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Phil’s honor on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 10:00am in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville. A private burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
