Philip Hunter

Philip "Phil" Jack Hunter born July 20th, 1954, was an amazing, compassionate, caring and selfless man. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. Phil Hunter, age 70, of Centerville, OH started his journey to heaven to reunite with his parents and brother on June 11th, 2025, while surrounded by the love of his family. Phil is preceded in death by his parents Walter "Jack" Hunter and Norma Jean Hunter and brother Jeffery Hunter. He is survived by his beloved wife Rhonda Hunter, Brothers Joe (Carmen) and Tim (Darlene). Sisters Teresa (Kurt) and Brenda. Two children, Russell and Angie. Three grandchildren, Emily, Ford, and Alissa. And two great grandchildren Forest and Ivie. And numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. After graduating from Beavercreek High School, he earned his associates degree in broadcasting. He was an employee of System Research Laboratories (SRL) for 24 years before becoming the victim of corporate downsizing. Phil had always taken pride in his work, earning two awards for outstanding performance and an award of excellence. Phil met his wife Rhonda in 1990 while working with her at SRL. Phil was hired as supervisor of courier services for Wright State University School of Medicine. His heart problems started July 5th, 1999. On August 10th, 2000, Phil and Rhonda were transported by a metro one life flight to the Cleveland Clinic. On January 29th, 2001, he became a proud heart transplant recipient. He then defied all odds with his strength, will and courage and lived a very fulfilling life for the next 24+ years. He was a miracle man. He was a natural born family man who was incredibly patient, calm, kind, outgoing and always had the best advice and guidance to offer to anyone. It gave him great pride and happiness to go above and beyond to help others, displaying his selflessness, compassion and unconditional love. Phil enjoyed many things including his love of sports. He was an avid Cincinnati Bengals and Reds fan. He enjoyed playing Texas Hold 'em and even went to Las Vegas to play and win. At the Sahara Poker Room they declared a tie and they split the pot. An amazing and fun memory for Phil. He loved his many dogs over the years and had a special bond with them. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and shared his goofy humor with all. But what truly made him happy was to spend his free time helping others in any way he could, even when it wasn't asked for or ever expected. He was a very giving and generous man who will be dearly missed by all and will always have a special place in our hearts. The family will receive friends from 11-12 on Monday June 23rd at Westbrock Funeral Home in Kettering. Followed by a memorial service at 12pm. There will be a Celebration of Life after the service at the Kettering American Legion Post 598, 5700 Kentshire Dr. Kettering 45440. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.
