Peter C. “Pete” Lanasa

Peter “Pete” Lanasa age 89 of Kettering Ohio passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, June 9, 2025. He was born on July 29, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose, Lanasa, his brother Charles and son Tom. He is survived by his wife Flo of 68 years; daughters, Patty L Geis (Michael), Lisa Bloom (Jeff Brick), Amy Weng (Rick); 6 Grandchildren, Michelle Abreu (Juan), Matthew Geis (Ally), Jamie Bentley (Craig), Carley Weng (Brad Cubbie), Riley Weng (Bruce Greer), Jonathan Geis (Christine); 13 Great grandchildren, Taylor, Isaac, Emily, Bronson, Noah, Atley, Hannah, Charlotte, Kanen, Oliver, Zoey, Mayze and Heidi.

A college football scholarship brought him to Dayton, Ohio graduating in Education from the University of Dayton in 1957. He was a proud member of the Golden Flyers. He was a principal in the City of Dayton for 37 years. Upon his retirement his compassion to serve and help others with disabilities lead him to be the Administrator of the Gorman Hewitt Ayars Foundation. A position he cherished for over 20 years.

Pete graciously chaired the local chapter of the Dayton Special Olympics Bocce to qualify for the state Olympics. Pete was a past president and golden member of the Sons of Italy John Pirelli Lodge. He loved to play bocce and visit with his garage buddies every Saturday morning for donuts and coffee. Pete was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

He loved being surrounded by his children, grand children and great grandchildren. He spent countless hours coaching and watching them play sports, performing in theater and dance.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Visitation at 10:00 AM and Mass at 11:00 on Saturday, July 19, 2025. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Dayton or a charity of your choice.
