Patricia Ann Woeste of Centerville, Ohio age 73 died peacefully in her home on June 30, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones after a prolonged battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her father James Lape and mother Laura Lape and is survived by her husband Joe, sons Ben (Tanya), Nick, and Chris (Jen) and three grandchildren. To know Patti was to love her and be loved by her. Patti was born in Bellevue, Kentucky as the second of five children. After graduating from Thomas More College she began teaching in northern Kentucky. She later worked in retail for Rikes when she married Joe in 1979. After her son Nick was born with Down Syndrome, she focused on her advocacy for Nick and other children born in the Miami Valley with Down Syndrome and various developmental conditions. She made her largest impact in work when teaching at Incarnation School from 2002 through 2017. During her tenure, she impacted the lives of hundreds of students and their families. She retired from Incarnation after being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2016. After her diagnosis she seized opportunities to experience life and travel with both family and friends. She visited some of her favorite places, ventured to new destinations, and created memories to last a lifetime. Additionally, she was involved in various organizations providing support to women diagnosed with breast cancer and was a mentor to many. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and she embraced all three with unending love and admiration. Patti’s smile could light up a room and her outgoing and genuine personality made it easy to love her. She was known for sending cards and gifts to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children for birthdays, holidays and whenever she felt the need. She was a lover of the arts, and frequented the Schuster Center and Aronoff Center for various performances. Despite her advanced disease she never let it slow her down: she always had “places to go, things to do, and people to see.” Her impact was felt by many and she will be sorely missed. Her family would like to specifically thank the Barrett Cancer Center Breast Oncology Department as well as Hospice of Dayton for their care, love and support of Patti during the most difficult of times.
