Nadene Becknell, 89, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on June 15, 2026.

Nadene was born in Lee County, Kentucky, to Donald and Helen. She attended Beattyville High School and, in 1952, transferred to Shelbyville High School, where she was honored as Tobacco Festival Queen in 1954. She graduated in 1955.

Nadene married Robert Becknell in Indiana, and together they made their home in Dayton, Ohio. She began her career as a telephone operator before becoming a licensed beautician and owner of Nadene's Beauty Shop on East Third Street. Through her work as a beautician, Nadene enjoyed visiting with customers and forming friendships that lasted for many years.

She later devoted herself to her family, especially in her cherished role as a grandmother.

A woman of faith, Nadene was a member of the Methodist church and carried those values throughout her life. She was also active in her community, volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America and participating in the Third & Irwin Business Association in Dayton.

Nadene found great joy in spending time with her family, especially during annual fishing trips to Moors Resort and Marina in Gilbertsville, Kentucky. These trips became a cherished family tradition and created lasting memories. She especially loved the Christmas season and had a fondness for angels.

Nadene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Becknell, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage. She is survived by her two sons, her grandchild, and many other loving family members. She also shared a special and lasting bond with her three sisters.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, with Reverend Joe Getts officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will follow at Woodland Mausoleum Chapel in Woodland Cemetery.
