John Lawrence Swintek, born April 1, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in Dayton at the age of 84. A lifelong resident of Dayton, John was a devoted father, grandfather, and dedicated professional whose life was defined by hard work, service, and an unwavering love for his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Mary (Guth) Swintek, and by his beloved wife, Betty Joyce Swintek.
He proudly served his country in the National Guard, embodying a spirit of duty that remained with him throughout his life. John graduated from Chaminade High School in 1959 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with honors, from the University of Dayton. He then built a fulfilling career as an accountant with General Motors, where he worked for more than 30 years. His meticulous nature and attention to detail were evident in all he did, both personally and professionally.
John will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Joyce Tillman (Ron Stone) and Jill (Jeff) Flynn, and his five grandchildren: Jessica, Jeffrey, Joshua, Jake, and Jerome. He cherished his family deeply, and his legacy of love, loyalty, and support will continue to live on through them.
A lifelong runner, John logged more than 30 miles each week—often even in the snow—and proudly completed three mini‑marathons. He was also a passionate sports fan, cheering faithfully for the Dayton Flyers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.
A visitation will be held from 5-7:00PM on Thursday, February 26 at Westbrock Funeral Home on Wayne Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 E. Second St., Dayton, at 10:00 AM. John will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
John Lawrence Swintek will be greatly missed, but his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Westbrock Funeral Home – Wayne Ave is honored to serve the family.
