James Michael Wright

November 5, 1950 — August 27, 2025

Dandridge, TN

James Michael "Mike" Wright, 74, of Dandridge, TN, passed away peacefully at his home on August 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Piqua, Ohio, on November 5, 1950, James lived a life defined by dedication and service. A proud Vietnam Veteran, he served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force. Following his military career, his commitment to his fellow service members continued for another 18 years, where he worked tirelessly for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

After his years of dedicated service, James found great peace and joy in his retirement living near the lake. He purchased a boat and spent countless hours on the water, sometimes fishing quietly and other times joyfully cruising with family and friends, simply enjoying the scenery. He was a man who loved the outdoors, often working in his yard until dusk.

James enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved to travel, and his warm, outgoing nature meant he never met a stranger. He will be remembered most for his generous spirit, always ready to help others in need without a moment's hesitation.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Patricia Wright; his son, James Wright (Melissa), and his son, Daniel Wright, and his fiancée, Robyn Lyons; and his honorary sons, whom he loved as his own, Joshua Tays (Michele) and Jeremy Tays. He also leaves behind his sisters, Ruth Diane Dunham (David) and Mary Suzanne Marando (Mike), as well as several nieces and nephews. James was the proud grandfather of four wonderful grandsons and two beautiful granddaughters who were the light of his life.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Mandel; his father, James Wright; his honorary father, Jacob Mandel; and his brother, Chris Mandel.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:30pm in the WESTBROCK FUNERAL HOME- KETTERING, 5980 Bigger Road, where a celebration of his life will begin at 12:30. Burial with military honors will follow in the Miami Valley Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James’ memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity whose mission he deeply believed in and greatly appreciated. His legacy of service, kindness, and love for his family will live on in all who knew him.
