James P. Vaughn, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 26, 2026 at the age of 76 due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Born on February 8, 1950 in Vienna, Austria, James was the beloved son of the late Paul and Katherina Vaughn.

James spent his childhood years in Vienna before moving to the United States, where he graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1969. He began his working life at his father’s Gulf Service Station, where he developed both his work ethic and his love for classic cars- a passion that remained with him throughout his life. Over the years, James owned more than 20 classic cars and was a regular at car shows, where he delighted in sharing his enthusiasm with fellow car afficionados.

In addition to his love for cars, James found joy in fishing and traveling with his family. These trips crated lasting memories filled with laughter and adventure. Known for his unwavering sense of humor, James was famous for his “dad jokes”, which he lovingly repeated to friends, waitstaff and anyone who crossed his path, leaving them with smiles and laughter.

James dedicated 36 years of his career to Armco, now known as AK Steel, where his hard work and dedication were deeply respected by his colleagues. His commitment extended beyond his professional life, as he was a devoted family man who cherished the time he spent with his loved ones.

James is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Connie Vaughn. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three children, Sarrah Vaughn, Rachel (Matthew) Owens and Adam Vaughn. He was a proud grandfather to Quinn, Perry and Maverick Owens, who were the light of his life.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Barry. His legacy of love will be carried on by those he leaves behind.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 2, 2026 from 1:30 to 2:00pm in the WESTBROCK & DANIEL FUNERAL HOME- KETTERING, 5980 Bigger Road. A Celebration of James’ life will begin at 2:00pm, followed by a reception and time of fellowship in his memory, also at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in James’ name to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.

James’ enduring spirit, infectious humor, and the warmth he shared with everyone he met will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
