Henry Anthony (“Tony”) Fielding (1939-2023)
Born on Faial in the Portuguese territory of the Azores Islands in 1939, Tony Fielding spent a lifetime exploring the world. He was the son of Robert George and Maria (Nobriga) Fielding and brother to Ted, all of whom predeceased him. Sent to a boarding school in Canada as a fifteen-year-old, he later attended university in Montreal, obtaining degrees in both engineering and business. Subsequent opportunities took him to Texas, Southern California, Saudi Arabia, New Jersey, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Ohio. Tony enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was happiest when traveling together with his wife Connie. His greatest joy could be found during RV trips to scenic destinations, surrounded by Portuguese cheese and wine, with a soccer game on the radio and a friendly cat on his lap. Even during his later illness, he never gave up his final wish to hike the volcanos in his home islands one last time. In addition to his wife Connie, Tony is survived by two sons from his first marriage (including Robert), two stepdaughters (Danette and Stephanie and her husband Mike), four grandchildren (including Clark and Mercer), his sister-in-law Marialice and his brother’s children (Kevin and Susan). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, October 3 at St. Joseph Church, 411 E. Second St., Dayton. Interment, Friday October 6 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Montezuma, OH. In lieu of flowers, a donation to local food pantries has been requested.
