Eugene E. “Gene” Hausfeld, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away on August 25, 2026, in Dayton. He was born on March 18, 1934, in Dayton, and remained closely connected to the community throughout his life.

Gene was an "All City" guard on the Chaminade High School Football Team where he graduated in 1952. Gene retired as an executive in the industrial laundry industry. In retirement, he continued to give generously of his time, volunteering more than 6,000 hours at The National Aviation Hall of Fame at the Air Force Museum. His dedication and steady service reflected a life marked by commitment, hard work, and a deep appreciation for others. He remained an active member and volunteer of Ascension Parish for many years. 

Gene served 4 years in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Okinawa, Japan. He has also remained a member of the American Legion Post #598. He had a good heart and was always an advocate to donate to charity and other local causes. His work ethic was second to none, and he taught this trait to his children and grandchildren. 

Gene's hobbies included enjoying time riding his bicycle, hiking, annual Father's Day canoe trips, making homemade maple syrup with his buddies and especially gardening and his love for Purple Shamrocks. He even went skydiving in celebration of his 80th birthday. However, his greatest love was spending time with his family and family gatherings. Everyone always looked forward to his “special” speeches prior to the meals at these family gatherings.

Above all, Gene was devoted to his family. He shared 68 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Sendelbach Hausfeld, and they would have celebrated 69 years together in October. He is also survived by his children, Tom Hausfeld (Barb), Jane Braun (Marc), Dave Hausfeld (Tracy), and Jim Hausfeld (Lynn). His family continued to grow through the generations, and he took great joy in each of them.

He is further survived by his 11 grandchildren, Jeff Hausfeld (Alice), Annie Teixeira (Jeff), Ted Hausfeld, Cappy Hausfeld, Kevin Braun (Sasha), Katie Braun, Ashley Scott (Dustin), Courtney Swinkels (Roel), Graham Hausfeld (Chaney), Sam Hausfeld, and Charlie Hausfeld. His 8 great-grandchildren also brought much happiness to his life: Andrew Teixeira, Carson Teixeira, George Teixeira, Spencer Teixeira, Addie Hausfeld, Haley Scott, Harper Scott, and Cleo Hausfeld, with one more great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Kayleen Hausfeld, his father, Clarence Hausfeld Sr., his mother, Marie (Goebel) Hausfeld, his sisters Sr. Ursula (Irene) Hausfeld O.S.U., Colette Haberkorn, Carmelita Duckro and his brothers Clarence Jr., Clete, Barney, Bob, and Jerry Hausfeld. Gene was the 7th and last surviving of 9 children.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Westbrock & Daniel Kettering, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio 45440. Mass will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Drive, Kettering, Ohio 45420. Gene will then be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. Gene will be remembered with love by those who knew him, and with lasting gratitude by the family he cherished so deeply.
