Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Meehan (1927—2025)

Elizabeth A. Meehan, 98, of Dayton, Ohio, died in the hospital after a brief illness on 25 Dec.2025.

Elizabeth was born in Columbus in 1927 to Wilbur and Clara Murphy, and grew up with a love for gardening after spending summers on her grandmother’s farm. As a young woman, Betty studied nursing at Mt. Carmel hospital where she later worked as a Registered Nurse.

After marrying in 1949, Jim and Betty lived in Columbus before moving to Michigan, living there until 1960, when Jim and Betty moved to Dayton, Ohio, where Betty lived a busy life raising three, eventually four, children and actively participating in parish life at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Clara and stepfather Earl, her husband James, her daughters Louise and Kathleen, and her granddaughter Sarah, and is survived by her sons Paul (Allen) and Christopher (Pat), four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 220 W. Siebenthaler Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45405 followed by Mass beginning at 11:00 am. Betty will then be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
