Elizabeth A.
Gabringer
Jun 28, 1930 — May 30, 2026
Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Gabringer, 95, of Centerville, OH passed away peacefully Saturday, May 30 at St. Leonard Rehabilitation Center in Centerville.
Betty was born to Gregory and Irene Schwab (Weisbecker) on June 28, 1930, in Napoleon, OH. She graduated from Leipsic High School, Putnam County, in 1948 and always proudly talked about how she finished second in her class that year. She went to work for Sylvania Corporation in Ottawa after high school, and there met her future husband Paul, whom she was married for 60 years. Betty and Paul moved to the Dayton area – in 1957 where they made their home for the rest of their lives – first in Huber Heights and then in Centerville at St. Leonard’s. Betty was a member of the St. Peter’s (Huber Heights) chapter of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia for many years. She was also an accomplished bowler.
She retired after 15 years from Sears in 1987 – where she worked at the downtown Dayton store as a bookkeeper. After that, she spent much of her retirement with Paul traveling the United States. And as many of her friends and family know – she enjoyed gambling and enjoyed group trips to casinos around the country. She was active as a volunteer at St. Leonard’s.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, son, Phil, three siblings – Bonnie, Patricia, and John. She is survived by four sons – Jim (Terri), Gary, Bob, and Chuck. She was grandma to six grandsons, Greg, Michael, Matthew (Courtney), Sean, Spencer, and Joseph. She had three great-grandsons, Colton, Luke, and Leo and one great-granddaughter, Chloe. Betty also had a great many friends and acquaintances.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday June 9 at 11:00 AM at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville. The Rev. Francis Keferl and Rev. Gerald Haemmerle will concelebrate. A short visitation will take place beginning at 10:00 AM until the start of Mass. Burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Betty's name to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton.
The WESTBROCK FUNERAL HOME- KETTERING is serving her family.
