Long, Eileen M. (Westendorf), age 74 of Beavercreek, passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy, her parents Joseph and MaryAnn Westendorf (Fiely), and her beloved wiener dog Jordan.
She is survived by her three daughters, Melanie (James) Wilson, Stacey (Tom) Harding and Kelly (Roger) Long; her brother Joseph (Debbie) Westendorf; her granddaughters, Kaylie, Maddie, and Ellie; her god-daughter, Amy Stahl; her lifelong friend, Kathy Stahl; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, and her dogs Teddy and Theo.
A 1967 graduate of Carroll High school, Eileen went on to a career at Channel 2 in Dayton, and refused to watch any other channel’s news broadcast from then on. She so enjoyed setting up the anchor appearances around town and kept us all informed when the wrong commercial came on during the nightly news. Despite her career, she always made time for family and friends even with her weekly schedule of watching Oprah.
Well known for her thriftiness, Eileen could teach classes on how to get a discount. She had no problem making her opinions known, followed by a vivacious laugh. With a whiskey sour in her hand, she loved watching live music, be it local or large concerts, and was always interested in going out as long as the traffic wasn’t too bad.
In the fall, you had better be quiet as the game was on, the Browns or her beloved scarlet and grey Buckeyes, both dictating her outfits and time commitments. In the winter, at UD Arena, she could always be found cheering on the Flyers, her biggest passion.
Besides football and basketball, Eileen’s favorite time of the year was the annual trip to the Upper Peninsula, Michigan watching the sun dance across Lake Huron. She thrived on an antiquated boat with her trusty cane fishing pole in her hand hoping for a pike at the end of the line. Sitting out on the veranda of Patrick’s Landing, she delighted in stories and shenanigans with family and friends watching the kids swarm all over and the mists coming in the evening. Sometimes, Heaven is just a bunch of little cabins in Michigan with the people you love.
