Donald C. Tangeman, age 96, of Kettering, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025. Born to the late Clifford and Gertrude (Lause) Tangeman, on November 14, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Rita; three children, Joyce (Chuck) Jordan, Rick Tangeman, and Diane (Dave) Hurtubise; eight grandchildren, Sharon (Jeff) Wetzel, Katie (Michelle Logan) Jordan, Lisa (Matt) Webster, Andrew Tangeman, Jen (Peter) Hilgeman, Matt (Emma) Hurtubise, Michelle (Dan) Furst, and Rachel Hurtubise; and eight great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jaxon Wetzel, Ava Webster, Lily, Harper, William, and Abigail Hilgeman, and Brody Furst. Don is also survived by his sister Norma Blanford.
Don was a proud 1947 graduate of Chaminade High School and a 1960 graduate of the University of Dayton. He served with honor in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Inland Division of GM for 35 years, contributing to the payroll and accounting departments.
In retirement, Don enjoyed a fulfilling 38 years, marked by cherished family trips to Myrtle Beach, traveling, playing cards with friends, and being an active member of the 10-15 Poker Club, the Blue Sock Fishing Club and the American Legion 598. Most of all, he treasured spending time with family and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, Don donated his remains to the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. A memorial Mass will be held in his honor on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 11am at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering. The family will receive friends in the church atrium prior to the service beginning at 10:00am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society or a charity of your choice.
