Barbara Barlage (Brinkman) passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12 with her loving family around her. Barbara was 83 years old and resided at the Englewood, Ohio home where her and the love of her life, Elmer, raised their three daughters.
Barbara Barlage was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised by her loving parents Richard and Rosemary Brinkman. She often said her younger brother, Richard, Jr, was her best friend as they were together all the time while growing up and later in life when they were Dayton 2-Steppers. Barbara graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1959 and started working downtown at Thal's in Accounting. She mentioned to her mom, Rosemary, there was a cute guy on the bus carrying a brown paper bag. Rosemary suggested that he was probably married if he had a packed lunch. Barbara and cute guy/Elmer were introduced on a blind date and married on September 14, 1963 at Our Lady of Mercy Church. They had three girls Teresa Pahl, Christine Blue and Pam Morin. Barbara worked at Stretch N Sew for several years, and then went back to school (when her girls were in school) at Sinclair Community College and graduated with an Associates in Administrative Assisting. She worked many years as the Admin to the President of Sinclair.
Barbara was involved with many different organizations as she loved to keep busy and crafting was her favorite hobby. She participated with her girl's extracurricular activities such as Blue Birds and Girl Scouts. And her and Elmer attended and supported all three of their girls extracurricular activities such as dancing, choir and marching band. Saturdays were craft days with her girls and they created many beautiful things with random items such as paper plates, packing peanuts, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, googly eyes, construction paper and Elmer's glue. She loved taking classes at the Wegerzyn Horticultural Center and was also President of her Chapter of Secretarial Professionals.
Elmer and Barbara enjoyed many years of retirement. They loved to dance and taught line dancing at Sinclair for several years. They also traveled to their bucket-list locations like Hawaii, a road trip out West to many National Parks and a road trip East to places like Cape Cod. They settled into a cozy senior life and enjoyed staying home and quilting, sewing, reading and spending lots of time with their two fur babies Max and Ben. They had 10 grandkids and 13 great-grandkids who brought them so much love and joy over the years. Barbara and Elmer were married for 57 years on earth and are back together now doing all the things they love.
Barbara will be laid to rest next to her love on Wednesday, June 25 at Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family visitation is 10:30-11:30 and service starts at 11:30 am in the Calvary Chapel. The family hopes you will join them at a luncheon at Dublin Pub from 1-4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Barb's favorite charities such as Hospice of Dayton, Alzheimer's Association and American Heart Association.
