William Albert "Bill" Kelly

September 11, 1941 - April 11, 2017

KELLY, William Albert Age 75 of Washington Township died at his home April 11, 2017 after an extended illness. He was born September 11,1941 in Dayton, Ohio to Mary Ellen Althoff Kelly and Edward Mackin Kelly. Maternal Grandparents Louise Zimmerman Althoff and Albertus Joseph Althoff of Dayton, Ohio. Paternal Grandparents Mary Mackin Kelly and William John Kelly of London, Ohio and Columbus, Ohio. His sister, Lynn Kelly Alejandrino and husband Dr. Sergio Alejandrino survive him. He attended St. Rita, St. Agnes and Assumption Catholic Schools and Chaminade High School graduating from North High School in Columbus after moving there to work at the Kelly Funeral Home. He attended Ohio State University and left before graduation to enlist in his beloved Marine Corp. As a Sargent, he served proudly in Vietnam as a Machine-Gunner earning the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, U.S. Rifle M-14 Marksman and Pistol Qualification Marksman. After discharge from the Marines, he finished his studies at the University of Dayton while working there and taking advantage of the GI Bill. He married Diane Oenning on May 27, 1966 and is survived by their three beautiful children: Julie Marie Kelly Diaz, Colleen Rae Kelly and William Albert Kelly II, and his grandchildren: Megan Elizabeth Beauregard, Lauren Megan Kelly and Penelope Rae Diaz. Bill moved to Miami, Florida and spent most of his career there as a Real Estate Broker & Property Manager. He managed the 40 story One Biscayne Tower Office Building in Miami, which was the tallest office building in Miami for many years. His claim to fame was remodeling the entire building without displacing a single tenant earning recognition from several organizations including BOMA’s prestigious Building of the Year Award for his work. He was an active member of the Miami Chamber of Commerce and other professional, philanthropic and social organizations. After his retirement, he returned to Dayton where he met and married his surviving wife of sixteen years, Carol Finstad Minges, his loving and faithful partner. They met at the American Legion Post 598 and he served there as Historian, Public Relation Officer and Photographer. He is also survived by Carol’s children: Naomi Lawhun, Mark Minges, Kevin Minges and Michael Minges. Bill Jr and his surviving daughter-in-law Maria Kelly made him very happy and as comfortable as possible in his last few weeks. Bill’s health failed after suffering years of breathing difficulty, taking his last breath on April 11th. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man who gave his all and we forever thank him for his service to his country. Visitation Thursday, April 20, from 4PM to 7PM at Westbrock Funeral home, 5980 Bigger Road. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, April 21, at 11AM at the Church of the Incarnation, Centerville, Ohio, Father Lawrence Mierenfeld offering the Mass. Burial following at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton with Full Military Honors. American Legion Post 598 will be hosting a reception after the Service at 5700 Kentshire Drive, Kettering, Ohio.
