Genevieve A. "Genny" Schmid

November 13, 1931 - December 24, 2017

Genevieve A. "Genny" Pellow Schmid, age 86, passed away on December 24, 2017 at St Leonard Retirement Community in Centerville, Ohio. Genny was preceded in death by her parents, Whitney J. and Ethelene Jones Pellow, sister Geraldine Pellow, and granddaughters Jacqueline & Michelle Marks. Genny was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 13, 1931. She was an accomplished dancer and saxophone and guitar player. She graduated from Roosevelt High school in 1949 where she played in the high school band. Genny received her B.S. in Dietetics from the University of Dayton (UD) in 1953, then completed her dietetics internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI in 1954. On October 2, 1954, she married her college sweetheart, Robert "Bob" Schmid, at the rectory of Mary, Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fairborn, Oh. Genny and Bob met when he was playing in the UD marching band and she was a member of the Marching Co-Eds drill team. Genny and Bob had 63 happy years together and lived in four states, primarily Ohio. They traveled to all fifty states and enjoyed many cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean and Hawaii. They also made a memorable trip to Europe in 2001. While raising her 8 children, Genny volunteered at their schools, attending hundreds of ball games, recitals, and concerts; she also assisted with exercising physically challenged children. Her pride in watching her family perform continued with her 13 grandchildren, who gave her great joy. Genny was the heart and soul of her family who lit up a room with her sparkling eyes and beautiful smile. She was a remarkable, loving wife, mother, and friend. She had unconditional love for all, a selfless nature, and unwavering faith in the Lord. Genny is survived by Bob and her children: son Dr. Bill Schmid (Alice) and grandchildren Audrey Schmid (Sean McGhee), Laura Glisson (Joe) and great-grand son Dallan Glisson, and Melanie Schmid; daughter Geri Marks (Bob), grandchildren Chris Marks (Jennifer) and Sarah Rogers (Scott); daughter Marie Mee (Jeff), grandchildren Matt and Emma Mee; son Rev. Mike Schmid (Teresa), grandchildren Erika Boudreaux (Andrew), great-grandchildren Elora and Orion Boudreaux; Heidi Newman (Chris), their unborn child; Danika Neal (Brandon); son Paul Schmid (Catherine), grandchild Anika Schmid; son Joe Schmid (Laura Collopy); daughter Julie Ehrlich (David), grandchildren Genevieve and Kirsten Ehrlich; and daughter Christine Engels (Rick). She was beloved by many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Genny is also survived by her loving best friend of 81 years, Annie Geis. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio and from 10:15am-11:00 am at St. Leonard’s Chapel on Saturday, December 30th . A memorial service will be held at St. Leonard’s Chapel, 8100 Clyo Road, Centerville, Ohio at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1625 Calvary Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, or Hospice of Dayton.
