HOPKINS, Alvina C (Knoth), Age 99, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at St Leonard Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Catherine (Osterloh) Knoth, husband Murray Hopkins, brother Sylvester Knoth, sister Stella Thomas, and nephew Randy Knoth. She is survived by one sister Rita Kern, and seventeen nieces and nephews including Shirley (Don) Coty, Joe (Nancy) Kern Jr, Barbara (Ken) Haney, Patty (Keith) Ross, Karen (Dick) Diehl, Mary Thoma, Gary Knoth, Norm (Linda) Knoth, Clara Catherine Knoth, Nick (Patsy) Knoth, Debbie (Bob) Mitchell, Ron (Roemelle) Knoth, Don (Wanda) Knoth, Bob (Doris) Knoth, Connie Lyons, Fred (Margie) Thomas, and Sandy (Jim) Jones. She also leaves many friends in Dayton and in the Jupiter, FL area where she and Murray lived for many years. She graduated from Miami Jacobs Business College and worked as a legal secretary for Marshall and Marshall patent attorneys and Smith Schnacke law firm in Dayton, OH. She was an executive secretary at the Miami (FL) Herald newspaper, and the First National Bank & Trust Company of Riviera Beach, FL. She was a member of St Anthony Parish, Dayton, OH; St Augustine Catholic Church, Waynesville, OH; and St Jude Catholic Church in Tequesta, FL, where she was a member of the women's sewing group. She liked fishing with her husband, and gardening, and she especially enjoyed creating beautiful, hand stitched quilts as a member of the Palm Beach County Quilters Guild. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in the St Leonard's chapel at 8100 Clyo Rd, Centerville on Tuesday, June 8, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd, Kettering, and again on Tuesday, June 8 at the chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420 or to St Leonard Benevolent Fund, 8100 Clyo Rd, Centerville, OH 45458.
